What is Nitric Oxide

Nitric Oxide has suddenly been put in the limelight as the leading agent responsible for erections. It relaxes the smooth muscle in the penis so blood can flow into penile caverns during stimulation. In medical terms, Nitric Oxide is a small gaseous molecule generated by the parasympathetic nerves and from blood vessels (endothelium) in response to stimulation. When the body needs to control microcirculation in various systems such as the Cardiovascular and Nervous System, it increases the body’s natural chemical properties to produce more Nitric Oxide and disperse this molecule to the area.

What Does Nitric Oxide Do

Nitric Oxide effects many areas in the body such as our cardiovascular system, nervous system, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, the renal system, and immune system.

Visual representation of the different organ systems in the body
For our purpose, we’ll focus on the Cardiovascular System and Nervous System as they are inextricably linked to sexual health.

In the Cardiovascular System, Nitric Oxide is responsible for

Relaxing vascular muscles
Reducing blood pressure
Dilating vessels to relieve pain of angina
Inhibits the aggregation of platelets that can lead to blood clots

In the Nervous System, Nitric Oxide is responsible for

Transmitting neurons across the body’s autonomic nervous system (signaling agent)
Increase blood flow and oxygenation to the brain
Mediates muscle relaxation during sexual arousal

When you pair these two systems up, it’s clear that without production Nitric Oxide, the body’s required systems to achieve and maintain an erection comes to a screeching halt. Deficiencies in Nitric Oxide levels in the body have been repeatedly linked to Erectile Dysfunction.

The Evidence between of Nitric Oxide and Erectile Dysfunction

Penile erection depends on the release of Nitric Oxide. We cannot trick our own body’s blood vessels into health! Blood vessels in the body have the ultimate tell if we are living a healthy or unhealthy lifestyle. Those who engage in regular physical exercise, proper diet and maintain a low cholesterol have healthy blood vessels. These healthy vessels when sensing physical stimulation will release more Nitric Oxide into the body so that it can expand vessels with increasing blood flow.

The opposite is also true. Unhealthy blood vessels such as those that sense high cholesterol, high blood pressure, toxins from vaping or smoking and even emotional distress will be slow to release Nitric Oxide into the body.

Thus, Erectile Dysfunction begin. If you have ED. You have low Nitric Oxide levels in your body.

Treating Erectile Dysfunction by Boosting Nitric Oxide Levels

Can you reverse Erectile Dysfunction with more Nitric Oxide? Yes. But there are caveats. Increasing Nitric Oxide levels means increasing the chemicals required to create the NO compound.

Enter L-Citrulline.

L-Citrulline, a natural supplement we offer at Paragons, is an amino acid that increases the production of Nitric Oxide. In one study, men who received the actual L-Citrulline supplement instead of the placebo reported a moderate increase in erection hardness and longevity, without adverse effects. L-Citrulline helps open veins and arteries to increase the blood flow into fatigued vessels that generate Nitric Oxide to allow blood into the penis by relaxing the caverns of the penile shaft.

Another natural supplement that helps reverse the effects of ED is, L-Arginine. This too is an amino acid made in the body that relaxes blood vessels to help the cardiovascular system maintain its optimal performance. Recent studies show that L-Arginine supplements help with heart failure, kidney inflammation, ease migraines and improve blood pressure. A study showed that when L-Arginine was combined with the chemical extracted from European pine trees, 32 men out of 40 restore their sexual ability in 1 month. After 3 months, 38 of the men experienced a normal erection after suffering from Erectile Dysfunction!

illustration of arginine and citrulline

Just taking L-Citrulline or L-Arginine alone, won’t restore men into full penile activity. These supplements only boost the Nitric Oxide levels that enhance the blood flow to the penis. Severe Erectile Dysfunction leaves the blood vessels and veins fatigued and unresponsive. To fully treat ED, one must also heal the vessels in the penis. The body’s natural regenerative healing properties, like the mending of a broken bone, can also regenerate blood vessels, veins, and tissue in the penis. As we age though, this process must be triggered, like jump cables to an old car battery. Paragon’s Pulse Wave treatments help jumpstart the regenerative process in the penis so blood can re-enter the vessels and caverns and reverse Erectile Dysfunction in men.

What is Regenerative Health?

Regenerative Health aims to reverse the process of physical ailments by improving the efficiency of our biochemistry and cell functions, thereby promoting self-healing and recovery. Regenerative Health stays focused on improving the quality of live we have without superficial treatments such as plastic surgery, or pills. Regenerative Health seeks to lift the quality of our lives and not simply anti-age the body.

Your life is much like a highway driven on by the moments and memories. The highway can crack and tear apart under the natural circumstances and ageing process of our life. We can fix our highway with superficial surface-only patch work that will lead to bumpy and unexpected roughness, or we can restore the highway. We excavate the damage, put in new sediment for a stronger bed-rock and pour in new asphalt for a high-quality smooth ride.

Regenerative Health uses the bodies natural healing responses to treat the root causes of disease contrary to Traditional Health measures that only combat the disease. Regenerative Health pursues permanent solutions rather than short-term healing. Regenerative medicine is the complete restoration of the highway, not inferior patch work.

You’ve Already Seen Regeneration In Your Body.

Clear examples of Regenerative Health are healing process such as a cut in the skin, the mend of a broken bone or when the liver regenerates when sickened or injured. Tissue regeneration is part of our body’s natural capabilities. If tissue inside the body is traumatized or partially lost, the body can take the remaining healthy parts and grow the same structure and function as the lost part.

Take note, Regeneration and Wound Healing are different healing processes of the body. Regeneration is the “regrowing” of traumatized areas whereas Wound Healing is a partial regeneration which involves closing the injury site with scar tissue or residual evidence of the wound.

Why Paragon’s Pulse Wave Treatment Works!

Using our Pulse Wave transmitter, we’re able to cause painless microtraumas to the penile area that send a signal to the brain to send new blood, new tissue and stem cells to restore the penis into full health. It’s like we turn on the “check engine light” in the penis to signal the brain to start the healing process.

Illustration of Pulse Wave treatment on the skin

The European Association of Urology’s lead research Dr. Martha Haahr has said “What we have done (Low-Intensity Shockwave Therapy) establishes that this technique can lead to men recovering a spontaneous erection –without the use of other medicines, injections or implants”

The penis’s ability to regenerate is so incredibly doable that the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine in North Carolina was able engineer rabbit penises that could be transplanted onto the rabbit for a complete treatment of sexual impotence. 12 bioengineered penises were transplanted onto rabbits; eight were able to ejaculate and four produced offspring!

We don’t do that at Paragon’s. However; the science behind regeneration and the penis is promising.

Regenerative Medicine Is Just Getting Started

Illness is not your fault. But healing is your responsibility. The American Lifestyle is not a healthy lifestyle.

Our diets have become increasingly unhealthy. What we purchase at grocery stores often lacks the proper nutrition to give the body the “good fuel” it requires to operate.

Stress continues to go up! 44% of Americans report that stress levels have increased over the past 5 years and sadly; almost a third of children are reporting physical health symptoms from stress such as headaches, stomach aches or unrest when sleeping.

Mindset. We’ve adopted a mind-set that certain diseases are just a natural occurrence when aging. This simply isn’t true. However, if you believe that arthritis is just going to happen when your old – you’ll do nothing to stave it from happening.

Illustration of how Diet, Stress and Mindset lead to bad health

Half of all men above the age 55 have Erectile Dysfunction. We simply cannot let ED be normal because of its prevalence.

As our lifestyles increasingly lead to physical ailments, science has needed to take a hard look at new avenues of health. Regenerative Health is one such avenue. PRP or platelet-rich plasma therapy, 3D Bioprinting, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Hyaluronic Avid injections (Joint-Injections) are all recent medical treatments with overwhelmingly promising results.

The mainstream medical community by default is conservative about new therapies. Historically, new treatments take 17 years to be adopted by the major medical community, but we know regenerative treatment options will someday be available cheaply and universally in the future and have no doubt that our Pulse Wave Therapy will be added to that list.

The-Most-Painful-ED-Treatments-in-History-ranked.jpg?fit=1200%2C628&ssl=1

History is plagued with many false assumptions and diagnoses for any one disease. Up until about 1845 people used to believe Malaria was caused by “bad air” that blew in during the night or from the marshes. It would take a military doctor name Alphonse Laveran in 1874 to prove that Maleria was in fact a germ carried by mosquitoes.

Modern science allows us to put our 20/20 Hindsight glasses on and ask ourselves, what were they thinking to even think that.. and there is no other ailment ancient science has tried to remedy more than that of impotence. Some of the first recorded remedies of Erectile Dysfunction date as far back to 2500BC! In ancient Greece they used animals associated with potency, such as snakes, to consume or rub on the gentile areas. Below is a list of the most painful Erectile Dysfunction treatments ancient – and modern – history have used.

Starting off with the least painful method:

Chinese Potion to Treat Erectile Dysfunction

#7 This Unobtainable Potion

In 2500 BC, a textbook of traditional Chinese medicine contained an elixir of 22 ingredients that was rumored to be used by the emperor to bed 1,200 women. The ingredients are wild and a bit grotesque. Such as: ox-penis, human placenta, the tongues of a 100 peacocks and distilled rhinoceros urine.

#6 After While Crocodile

Around 1600 BC, the Egyptians believed that spells and witchcraft caused impotence. They believed a man could guard themselves against these spells with many topical remedies. An Egyptian Papyrus titled “Ebers” documented the grinding of baby crocodile hearts and wood oil rubbed on the penis would maintain a man’s sexual potency. This might be a less painful method than the drinking of human placenta; but we wonder how many hands were bitten by crocodiles to make this concoction.

Acupuncture has been used in ancient and modern times to restore the flow of Qi and treat Erectile Dysfunction

#5 A Poke and A Prod

Going back to Eastern methods – one that is still used today – is acupuncture. Studies show that acupuncture is virtually painless when administered by trained professionals. The Chinese believe that the element of Qi, a vital energy permeating the whole universe, generates from a balance of Yin and Yang. Acupuncture identifies key acupoints in the body that help regulate the flow of Qi. Old and modern documents show that there are targeted acupoints on the genital area. Anytime there is a needle insertion around this sensitive tissue, we believe there is going to be some minor pain felt.

#4 Witches and Starfish

The Middle Ages have a dark history of treating ED. It was during 1450-1750AD that the church correlated male impotence with female witchcraft. Women could be beaten, tortured or burned for causing male impotence. After some reasonable thought and the consistency of male impotence still happening after the burning of witches; they finally sought solutions through apothecary remedies. One being star fish. When consumed, this aphrodisiac surprisingly worked but at a cost. Men would often have very painful ejaculations. So painful, blood would be present when orgasming.

 #3 The Price of Inflation

A big leap forward to the 1970’s brings us – what could be called – the very first penis pump. Still used today, a man named Geddings Osbon was diagnosed with impotence and was told nothing could be done about it. His expertise in “vacuum” technology used at his small business to repair tires would become his solution. Geddings used a tire pump to create negative air pressure that vacuum sealed a cylinder cupped around the penis to bring blood flow and cause a sustained erection. He would later pioneer the technology that would eventually become FDA approved penis pumps. However, there is documentation he experienced a few painful experiments before getting it “right.

#2 History’s First Cut

Year 1873, in Italy, the first surgical treatments for erectile dysfunction were attempted. A successful treatment was one that blocked veins that drained blood away from the penis to mitigate male impotence. The procedure and side affects would be documented as painful. Present day doctors do not recommend surgery or any type of vascular transplant to treat erectile dysfunction.

Russian doctor Serge Voronoff transplanted monkey testicles into human scrotums to heal ED.

#1 Swapping Testicles

Coming in first place as the most painful remedy for erectile dysfunction is one that didn’t happen so long ago. In 1918, a Russian doctor named Serge Abrahamovitch Voronoff or later nicknamed “Monkey Gland Man” would transplant monkey testicles into human scrotums.

The results improved penile activity but only because of the “placebo” effect! After treating more than 500 men and thousands more around the world it was concluded that this painful operation never successfully showed evidence of animal organs and tissue being absorbed. A lot of the recipients would face excruciation side effects for years after their transplant.

Medical history is fascinating. There are breakthroughs we honor and failed attempts the scientific community would rather forget. The curing of Erectile Dysfunction dates as far back as the first medical records we can find. Male impotency has not been ignored throughout the ages or in modern times.

What is common about these treatments is their unproven or weak track record of success. Treating ED has been much of a guessing game; until now.

A Painless Treatment is Discovered

Paragon’s Pulse Wave therapy is a painless treatment process that uses acoustic waves to regenerate natural tissue and blood flow back to the penis. Instead of tricking the body with an injection of chemicals to excite the genital area – we’re looking at you Viagra and Cialis – the regenerative process started by our treatments is long lasting. Results of our treatment have been proven to keep men free of Erectile Dysfunction for several years!

The scientific mishaps or overpromises to treat ED have put doubt in a lot of our minds. The question is always “Will this actually work?”

Paragon’s Pulse Wave therapy does work. And, it’s painless. Read more about our procedure here! Or schedule a free medical and initial treatment with a Paragon Men’s Health location nearest to you.

A Very Common Scenario

The moment has come. Your significant other has given you all the signals that they are in the mood and hope to express their affection to you through physical intimacy. Their moment of pleasurable anticipation is suddenly your moment of dread. You haven’t refilled the Viagra medications. Or maybe you have but you haven’t timed it out and sneaking off to down a pill isn’t an option. Panic takes over and the excuse comes out of you. “I can’t right now, I need to get some stuff done”

We know Erectile Dysfunction affects those bedroom moments. We’re learning now that it affects so much more. Men with Erectile Dysfunction also face these trials.

Depression

Anxiety

Relationship Problems

Alcoholism

The trails we face with Erectile Dysfunction are Bidirectional. Or they occur at the same time, feeding off each other and puts us on a continual downward spiral.

Your spiral might have begun with psychological disorders first, or maybe the first signs of impotence started it all. Regardless, Paragon’s Pulse Wave technology has helped break the cycle of impotence and disorders by treating the root cause of ED with long lasting results.

Depression

The link between erectile dysfunction and depression is clasped together in iron. 82% of men who report having Erectile Dysfunction also have symptoms of depression. That’s because sexual desire is cultivated in the brain, and sex organs rely on chemicals in the brain to promote libido as well as the changes in blood flow needed for the sexual act. When depression disrupts these brain chemicals, it can make sexual activity more difficult.

The National Library of Medicine states that, “The psychosocial distress that often accompanies erectile dysfunction might stimulate the development of depressive illness, or, as some data suggest, depression might cause erectile dysfunction.”

It’s a chicken vs the egg situation. But one that can be broken by the treatment of ED.

Anxiety

Anxiety can be divided into two camps. Performance Anxiety and Personal Anxiety.

Performance Anxiety

Performance Anxiety or as we call it Bedroom Anxiety is caused by stressed or anxiety when a person feels they are unable to meet a partner’s sexual expectations. Performance Anxiety is often a compounded result of a man hiding their ED, then their inability to hold an erection, which causes them to be more stressed about performing, which ultimately leads to more severe symptoms of ED. Many men can recognize when their erectile difficulties are “emotional” or “psychological” in nature, but few understand that anxiety may be the root cause of these conditions.

Personal Anxiety

Personal Anxiety is the result of being in a “panicked” mode caused by stressors such as being overworked, overly busy, financial worries, relationship struggles, and much more. These triggers initiate our flight or fight response. Both these responses make your heart pump more blood into your arms and legs in preparation to fight or flee, meaning less blood flow can be spared for sexual activity. It may seem impractical for an individual to live in a panicked mode 24/7, but research shows that Generalized  Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is very real.

Bedroom and Personal Anxiety can seep into a healthy relationship and destroy couples. Online forums such as BeyondBlue have many postings about men seeking help to control their anxiety as it’s taken control of their lives. Below is a true story of how anxiety has strained the relationship of a couple.

“We’re fighting about this on a weekly basis now. The kind of fights where we scream at each other, in floods of tears, then end up barely speaking for 2-3 days afterwards. Things get better, I try to follow through with my promises to keep up the consistent application of the tools I have to combat anxiety, but then a week or so later I bottle it, end up breaking my promise and the cycle repeats.”

Relationship Problems and Regret.

The most uttered phrase we hear from patients who have completed their treatment session is something like this, “I wish I’d done this sooner” or “If I could’ve had this treatment years ago, It would’ve saved my marriage”.

Regret is a negative emotion that involves blaming ourselves for a bad outcome. It usually causes us to “wish” we had done something different or undo a choice that we made. David Morgan, of the Institute of Psychoanalysis states “It is self-flagellation, and it can be incredibly damaging to our mental health. It is exhausting, it sucks all joy and fulfilment from our days, and it leaves us stuck, always looking backwards and unable to move forward in our lives.”

ED is major source of regret or shame for men. Close to 70% of men with ED said they feel like they are letting their partners down. These feelings of embarrassment often lead men to hide or cover up their ED. But, at some point, there will be a breaking point.

It’s really up to us as men to step forward and address our conditions. To open up to our significant others and get some help.

As some patients have said:

“It has changed my life and my relationship with my wife.”

“They made it possible for me to get my life back”

“Within a few weeks I could tell a difference and was glad I did it. I wish I hadn’t waited and been so private about it. ED is real and it effects our lives, work, marriages and relationships.”

You can put a stop to this Bidirectional Relationship, ED causes in our lives. Paragon’s Pulse Wave therapy works to treat the root causes of ED for long lasting results. Our staff honor, and respect those who make the decision to get treatment. We’re with you every step of the way as you begin your journey back to a confident man.
